About me (Renn)!

Jadetine, My OC

Howdy! My name is Renn and I am a 40+ Asian-American artist residing in Austin, Texas, USA. I grew up in a great era for anime and videogame content, and making fanart is where my artistic journey began: (prepare for a lil cringe art from 2005, lol)

My art journey!

Jadetine is the name of an original character I created as a pre-teen. I use this moniker almost everywhere (except in the few places where the name was already taken).

Jadetine, My OC

I was nudged into a very technical, not-so-artistic degree for my career, so I went years without really drawing. I briefly joined an art club in college... but for the next decade, I was so focused on making money and raising a family that drawing was mostly a forgotten pastime. And then the pandemic hit.During this time, I had left my job and was a full-time stay-at-home-mom. In between meal-prep, house-keeping, and childcare, I was clocking a ton of hours in Animal Crossing New Horizons. My son would leave his iPad out at night and out of curiosity, I loaded Procreate and started doodling with my finger.

And then I started posting my art on a small AC forum with a very encouraging and thoughtful art community. I started trading artwork and studying and investing in a stylus and artbooks and I haven't stopped making art since.

And then, I remembered what it felt like to walk into Artist Alley and to see booths filled with amazing art. I had always dreamed of standing on the artist's side of the table. I still feel the imposter syndrome-- it's hard not to compare myself to the people around me. I also felt insecure in my progress, as most of my art peers were a decade younger... but if there's anything worth taking away from my experience, it's that doing what you love is worth pursuing and it hurts no one but yourself to hold back. Life is short. Let me celebrate my fandoms and my art!So I started my art business in July 2024 and attempted my first table at the Colossalcon TX art market the next month:

And my world has continued to expand ever since. I love making art, but even more, I love sharing it and talking with fellow fans. Someday, I dream of making my own webcomic and sharing my stories and fulfilling the adolescent dreams I had set aside so long ago. It is wonderful to continue growing and developing and working hard toward a goal, and I am happy to lead by example for my kids. I am so blessed.
